Manchester United are preparing a significant summer overhaul of their midfield, with plans to invest nearly €175 million (£150m) in three new players, according to The Daily Mail. This comes as Casemiro’s departure has been confirmed and Manuel Ugarte is also expected to leave Old Trafford, leaving manager Michael Carrick needing reinforcements.
The club reportedly intends to allocate approximately €90 million to a “marquee signing”, with Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Sandro Tonali all identified as potential targets. However, Elliot Anderson is considered out of reach, and the club is also exploring cheaper options like Alex Scott, Tyler Adams, Mateus Fernandes, and Shea Charles.
United have already seen an opening bid of €120 million for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez rejected, as reported by Fichajes. The 22-year-old has been a standout performer for Barcelona this season, contributing to 30 goals in 46 matches, and is viewed by the United hierarchy as a potential replacement for Bruno Fernandes. However, Barcelona have reportedly shown no willingness to part with the Spanish international.
Club legend Peter Schmeichel has urged United to sign Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka, praising his leadership qualities. Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Schmeichel argued that Xhaka’s presence would provide the leadership currently lacking in the United squad, highlighting his impact on Sunderland’s season. He believes Xhaka could complement the developing talent of Kobbie Mainoo.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray are reportedly interested in Bruno Fernandes, according to Sky Germany, viewing him as their “ultimate dream target” and aiming to make a statement signing this summer. United are hopeful of retaining Fernandes, who has enjoyed a strong season at Old Trafford, but Galatasaray are prepared to test his resolve. The club also has no plans to sell Amad Diallo, with officials remaining pleased with his progress, and the player himself reportedly wanting to stay. United are also monitoring Donyell Malen of AS Roma, who has impressed since joining the club in January, scoring 12 goals in 17 games, but face competition from Barcelona, Chelsea, and Newcastle.
