Manchester United are aiming to secure a new centre-forward as part of a potential triple deal in the summer transfer window, according to a trusted source. The club has already added Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow and Tynan Thompson to Michael Carrick’s squad, bolstering midfield options and goalkeeping depth.
The pursuit of a striker comes after United missed out on several midfield targets, initially pivoting to Atalanta’s Ederson before ultimately signing Santos from Chelsea for £50 million and activating Youri Tielemans’ £35 million release clause from Aston Villa. These acquisitions reportedly cost the same as Tottenham Hotspur’s recent purchase of Mateus Fernandes.
While a third central midfielder remains a priority – with the club seeking a ‘combative player capable of covering large distances’ – United are also considering options up front. Benjamin Sesko’s return to full fitness after a shin injury is being monitored, but his current backup, Joshua Zirkzee, is expected to return to Italy after struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford.
Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray has been identified as a ‘dream’ target, though his current club is demanding a substantial €150 million (£128 million) fee. Previous targets such as Robert Lewandowski, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eli Junior Kroupi, and Dusan Vlahovic are no longer viable options, with Lewandowski having joined Chicago Fire. Experienced options like Danny Welbeck and Ivan Toney are also under consideration by INEOS chiefs, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
United officials also believe strengthening the left-back position is more urgent than centre-back, with concerns over Luke Shaw’s ability to manage both Premier League and Champions League commitments. Marcus Rashford may be given a chance to establish himself as the first-choice left winger during pre-season if no suitable bids are received.
