Manchester United have been presented with a potential opportunity to sign Aurelien Tchouameni following a reported altercation with Real Madrid teammate Federico Valverde, according to Marca.
The incident, which occurred during training this week ahead of El Clasico against Barcelona, escalated from a foul into a heated argument that continued into the changing room. Further reports from Marca claim a second confrontation on Thursday resulted in Valverde requiring hospital treatment.
Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from Monaco in 2022 for a reported €69.4 million, becoming a key component in midfield. However, the recent unrest within the Real Madrid squad, including separate incidents involving Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger, has created a volatile atmosphere.
With Valverde being the club’s vice-captain, reports suggest that Real Madrid are more likely to consider selling Tchouameni if they opt for significant changes to the squad in the summer. This development comes at a crucial time for Manchester United, who are seeking a replacement for Casemiro, who will depart upon the expiration of his contract in July.
United have identified several midfield targets, including Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, but his expected price tag of over €120 million is beyond their current €93 million budget. Other options considered include Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Alex Scott. Tchouameni has been linked with a move to Old Trafford previously, and the recent events in Madrid may make a deal more feasible.
Prior to the reported bust-up, securing Tchouameni would have been a complex operation given his importance to Real Madrid’s squad. However, the current instability at the Bernabeu could prompt the Spanish giants to be more open to offers, potentially allowing United to make a move for the French international. The situation could provide United with a more attainable solution to fill the void left by Casemiro’s departure.
