Manchester United have expressed interest in signing Neco Williams from Nottingham Forest, but the Midlands club are reportedly unwilling to sell the Welsh full-back this summer, according to sources cited by Caught Offside.
United are seeking to strengthen several positions during the upcoming transfer window, with midfield identified as a priority. However, the club also recognizes the need for depth at left-back, viewing Williams as a potential alternative to Luke Shaw. The Red Devils have reportedly made an initial enquiry regarding the player’s availability.
Williams, 25, has established himself as a consistent performer in the Premier League, featuring in four consecutive seasons. This past season proved to be his most productive to date, contributing two goals and three assists for Forest. He also gained valuable European experience, making 15 appearances in the Europa League as Nottingham Forest reached the semi-finals.
Nottingham Forest are in a strong negotiating position, having recently secured their Premier League status for another season. Williams is under contract with the club until 2029, further complicating any potential move. Forest’s reluctance to part with the player suggests they view him as a key component of their squad moving forward.
United’s need for a reliable left-back stems from their qualification for the Champions League, which will require a larger squad to manage increased fixture congestion. While Patrick Dorgu has shown promise, the club may prefer to add a more experienced, dedicated full-back. However, overcoming Forest’s resistance will be a significant challenge for United, and they may need to consider alternative targets.
