Manchester United are considering a summer move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the club encouraged by the possibility of securing a deal. The Red Devils are aiming to strengthen their central midfield options during the upcoming transfer window, potentially adding two or three new players to the squad.
United have reportedly identified Ederson as a potential reinforcement, viewing the Brazilian as a possible replacement for the ageing Casemiro. The 26-year-old has established himself as a key player in Serie A, and his contract with Atalanta is set to expire in the summer of 2027. Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi acknowledged interest from other clubs, stating they haven’t received official offers but will assess the situation calmly.
According to sources close to the transfer, United have already reached a loose agreement on personal terms with Ederson. The proposed contract would run until 2031, with a net salary of approximately €5million per year, equating to roughly £100,000 gross per week. This offer has reportedly convinced Ederson to favour a move to Old Trafford should an official bid be made.
Atalanta are believed to value Ederson around €45million (£38.9m, $53m), a fee within Manchester United’s financial reach. The clubs have a pre-existing positive relationship, having previously completed deals for Rasmus Hojlund and Amad. However, United are also exploring other midfield options, including players in the Premier League, and a final decision on a bid for Ederson is contingent on the success of those pursuits. United have reportedly drawn up a six-player shopping list for the summer window.
This potential move comes as United look to emulate their successful attacking overhaul from last summer by strengthening their midfield this time around. Securing a player like Ederson would provide competition and depth in a crucial area of the pitch, potentially setting the stage for a more competitive season.
