Manchester United are once again considering a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, with the player’s representatives initiating contact to gauge the club’s interest, according to Fabrizio Romano. United previously held talks with Baleba last summer, even agreeing personal terms, but a deal collapsed due to Brighton’s £100 million valuation.
Baleba’s value has since decreased to £70 million following a season where his form was reportedly impacted by the transfer speculation. Romano reports that those close to the player have contacted United to explore the possibility of a transfer this summer, with Baleba still keen on a move to Old Trafford. He had previously expressed a strong desire to join the club when Erik ten Hag was manager.
United have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, and are seeking a third addition. The club has been linked with several other midfielders, including Manu Kone, Sander Berge, Eduardo Camavinga, Alex Scott, and Aurelien Tchouameni. However, Baleba remains on their list of potential targets.
The situation has changed since January, when Ten Hag departed the club, leading to a cooling of interest. United’s pursuit of other targets, such as Roma’s Kone, is ongoing, with personal terms already agreed and an opening bid expected. Other midfield options being considered include Danilo of Nottingham Forest and Tyler Adams of Bournemouth. The potential re-emergence of Baleba as a target suggests United are keeping multiple options open as they seek to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season. A successful acquisition could provide further competition and depth in a crucial area of the pitch.
