Manchester United are reportedly preparing an offer for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero, according to Gaston Edul. The Argentina international has been linked with a move away from Spurs following a disappointing season for the club, with Atletico Madrid also expressing interest. However, sources at United have reportedly dismissed the links, as reported by TEAMtalk.
United may have an advantage in the pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, owing to the presence of director Jason Wilcox. Wilcox previously held a director of football role at Southampton and reportedly laid the groundwork for Fernandes’ move to the Saints before joining United in April 2024. While a strong relationship exists, West Ham are demanding a fee exceeding €90m for the Portugal international.
Bournemouth are attempting to retain Alex Scott by offering the England midfielder a new contract that includes a release clause, as reported by The Athletic. Scott has emerged as a potential target for United as they seek to strengthen their midfield, but Bournemouth are keen to keep him for at least another season. The inclusion of a release clause would allow Scott to pursue a move to a larger club in the future.
Despite Manchester City being the current frontrunners, United have not entirely given up on signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, according to The Guardian. City have already had a bid rejected for the 23-year-old, with Forest seeking a fee of over €115m. Anderson is believed to favour a move to the Etihad Stadium, but United still consider him a “dream” target and believe a deal remains possible, although challenging given City’s progress.
These potential signings reflect United’s ambition to overhaul key areas of their squad during the summer transfer window, with the midfield and central defence appearing to be priorities. Securing these targets will likely depend on negotiating acceptable fees and convincing the players to choose Old Trafford.
