Manchester United’s potential summer transfer plans have been impacted by an injury to midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Ugarte sustained a knee injury during Uruguay’s recent World Cup defeat against Spain, casting doubt on a possible departure from Old Trafford.
Ugarte, who joined United from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, had reportedly been identified as a player the club could allow to leave this summer. However, the severity of his injury now complicates matters, potentially forcing United to reconsider their midfield options. Romano stated that the club is awaiting further assessment of the injury before making any decisions.
Meanwhile, West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes is attracting interest from both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. West Ham, recently relegated to the Championship, will reportedly sell Fernandes to the highest bidder. Romano reports that Fernandes is open to joining either club, leaving the decision in West Ham’s hands. Manchester United are still pursuing the 21-year-old despite concerns over his €92million (£80m) asking price.
Despite speculation linking Aurelien Tchouameni with a move to Manchester United, Real Madrid have not indicated a willingness to sell the French international. Romano confirms United’s interest in the 26-year-old, but states that Real Madrid have not made Tchouameni available for transfer. A change in Real’s stance could open the door for United and other potential suitors.
Arsenal are also firm in their stance regarding Viktor Gyokeres, dismissing interest from Atletico Madrid. The Gunners are not planning to offload the Swedish forward, despite previous reports suggesting he could be sold to fund a move for Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid enquired about Gyokeres’ availability but were informed he is not for sale, although Arsenal could be open to offers if a significant bid is presented later in the summer.
