Manchester United are expected to make a formal approach for Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni in the coming days, according to reports from Spain.
Tchouaméni has been identified as a key target for United as they seek to bolster their midfield options following the departure of Casemiro. While the club has tracked the Frenchman for months, they have not yet received confirmation that a deal is possible.
Real Madrid are reportedly willing to consider offers for Tchouaméni to fund other midfield acquisitions, potentially around a €100 million fee. The club had previously dismissed the possibility of signing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández this summer, indicating a need to generate funds through player sales if they are to strengthen in that area.
Despite a preference to retain Tchouaméni, Madrid are aware that other players, such as Eduardo Camavinga, are currently resisting potential moves away from the Bernabéu. This situation has led to a reassessment of Tchouaméni’s position within the squad.
United’s directors are reportedly prepared to offer a substantial fee to secure the signing of Tchouaméni, viewing him as an ‘essential’ addition to the team. Initial contact between the clubs is anticipated shortly.
Tchouaméni arrived at Real Madrid from Monaco in 2022 for a fee of €80 million and has become a regular fixture in the team, often deployed in a defensive midfield role, as well as covering at centre-back. He has two years remaining on his current contract, but has yet to agree to an extension.
The Red Devils have recently missed out on the signing of Mateus Fernandes, who opted to join Tottenham Hotspur. A deal for Atalanta’s Ederson is anticipated to follow Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup. However, Tchouaméni remains United’s primary target, and the club is willing to make him one of their highest earners.
The potential arrival of Tchouaméni would provide United with a long-term solution in midfield, offering both defensive solidity and passing range. For Real Madrid, a significant sale would allow them to pursue alternative targets and reshape their midfield options.
