Chelsea are preparing to offer winger Alejandro Garnacho to other clubs this summer, according to reports from The Sun and journalist Si Phillips. The potential sale comes just one year after the Blues signed the Argentina international from Manchester United for a reported £40 million.
Garnacho arrived at Stamford Bridge with expectations of becoming a key player, however, he has only managed eight goals and four assists in his single season with the club. Despite a decent goal contribution record, Chelsea’s managers have been unable to secure him a regular starting position, leading to the club’s decision to explore a sale.
Manchester United will likely welcome the news for two key reasons. Firstly, the Red Devils included a 10 percent sell-on clause in the deal that took Garnacho to Chelsea last summer. If Chelsea are able to recoup the initial £40 million fee, United would receive an additional £4 million. Secondly, the club reportedly found Garnacho difficult to deal with during his time in Manchester, and his insistence on only joining Chelsea complicated negotiations and potentially limited the fee United could have received.
United ultimately accepted £40 million for a player who had recently finished a season with double figures in both goals and assists, suggesting they may have been able to secure a higher fee under different circumstances. Garnacho’s departure could allow Chelsea to reinvest funds in other areas of the squad, while United benefit financially from a player who proved to be a disruptive force at Old Trafford. The situation highlights the complexities of player transfers and the potential for clubs to profit even after selling players to rivals.
