Manchester United are preparing an opening bid of €75 million (£65m) for West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, according to FootballTransfers. The 21-year-old has become a key target for manager Michael Carrick following a successful debut season with the Hammers, as United prepare for their return to the Champions League.
Fernandes is widely expected to depart West Ham this summer amid significant interest from multiple clubs. While the initial offer from United is below West Ham’s current valuation, the club are planning a serious push to secure his signature. Fernandes’s performances in midfield have quickly established him as a promising talent in the Premier League.
Separately, Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba has reportedly been in contact with Manchester United players regarding a potential move to Old Trafford. The Cameroon international was previously linked with United last year, with personal terms reportedly agreed before the deal faltered due to Brighton’s asking price, which exceeded €115 million. Baleba spoke with Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha after United’s 3-0 victory over Brighton on the final day of last season.
The club are also facing competition for other targets, with Bayern Munich poised to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown, a player United had also been tracking. Furthermore, Arsenal have been alerted to the availability of Marcus Rashford, although Barcelona have opted to pursue Anthony Gordon instead.
United are also preparing an offer for RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare, valued at approximately €40 million, with Liverpool also monitoring the situation. The club is also considering Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall to bolster their left-back options following Tyrell Malacia’s departure and Patrick Dorgu’s transition to a left-wing role. These moves signal a busy summer transfer window for Manchester United as they look to strengthen their squad under Carrick.
