Manchester United have informed Barcelona that they will not lower their €30 million asking price for Marcus Rashford, setting a deadline of June 15th for the Catalan club to make a final decision. Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona, with the Spanish side holding an option to make the move permanent.
Barcelona are reportedly keen on retaining Rashford despite recently completing the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for around €80 million. However, the club is attempting to negotiate a lower fee than the agreed €30 million, a tactic United are resisting. Manchester United’s CEO Omar Berrada has stressed the importance of financial discipline in the transfer market, stating the club must avoid being dictated to by agents or market forces.
While Berrada’s comments were broadly about potential signings, they are equally applicable to player sales, including Rashford. United acknowledge the need for agility but maintain Barcelona must meet their valuation. The club believes a €30 million fee is reasonable, considering Rashford’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €38.5 million and the player’s willingness to reduce his wages to facilitate the transfer.
Barcelona’s focus appears to be shifting towards other attacking targets, including Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva, potentially complicating a deal for Rashford. This has left the England international in an uncertain position as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup. United believe they could secure a higher fee by selling Rashford to another club, with Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle all expressing interest.
Despite being under contract with Manchester United until 2028, Rashford is not currently part of manager Michael Carrick’s long-term plans. While Carrick has publicly stated Rashford is welcome back at the club, reports suggest his future lies elsewhere. Recent reports in Spain, as cited by Sport, indicate United may be open to negotiating a more favourable exit for Barcelona, given Rashford’s strong desire to remain at Camp Nou and limited interest from other clubs.
