Manchester United are continuing to assess a potential move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, though a formal offer has not yet been made, according to reports. The 22-year-old Cameroon international was previously a target for United last summer, with personal terms reportedly agreed, but a deal fell through due to Brighton’s firm stance on his valuation.
Brighton are currently seeking £70 million for Baleba, a figure INEOS, United’s new ownership group, previously deemed too high, having rejected a £100 million demand in 2025. However, the player himself remains keen on a transfer to Old Trafford, with journalist Dylan McBennett reporting a belief that Baleba could “transform” United’s midfield.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Baleba’s continued interest in joining United, stating that the player’s representatives have re-established contact with the club to gauge their current intentions. Romano noted that a previous agreement on personal terms existed, but the situation went “cold” after Erik ten Hag’s departure. United are currently evaluating options for a third midfield addition following the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
Romano also indicated that Baleba’s camp is awaiting a response from United following the collapse of a separate deal, suggesting they are seeking clarity on whether the club will revisit their interest.
