Manchester United have been presented with a potential opportunity to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid following a series of incidents within the Spanish club’s squad, according to reports in Spain. AS newspaper reports that Madrid have ‘opened the exit door’ for the French midfielder after a training ground altercation with Federico Valverde, which left Valverde requiring stitches.
Recent reports have indicated a breakdown in team harmony at the Bernabeu, with Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Carreras also involved in a physical confrontation this week. Madrid are reportedly set to begin disciplinary proceedings in response to the unrest. This change in circumstances has altered Madrid’s previous stance on Tchouameni, who they were previously intending to offer a new contract.
United were already known to be monitoring Tchouameni, with contact made on April 22nd, identifying him as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro. Jurgen Klopp and Niko Kovac have both publicly praised the 26-year-old, with Opta also recognising his ‘world-class’ ability. A transfer fee in the region of £70-80million is anticipated.
While a move for Tchouameni is being explored, there is also speculation surrounding the future of Amad Diallo at Old Trafford. The i Paper reports ‘rumblings’ that the winger could be allowed to leave, with Sunderland repeatedly expressing interest in re-signing him after a successful loan spell with the club during the 2022-23 season. Sunderland have reportedly made multiple approaches for Diallo, all of which have been rejected to date.
Elsewhere, club legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes have both indicated a preference for Luis Enrique to become the next permanent Manchester United manager, acknowledging the challenges in attracting top managerial talent to the club.
