Manchester United are monitoring options to strengthen both their left-back and midfield positions this summer, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni emerging as potential targets. According to respected United journalist Andy Mitten, the club believes Hall is receptive to a move to Old Trafford.
The need for left-back cover is apparent, with Luke Shaw’s potential availability throughout the season a concern for manager Erik ten Hag. Mitten reported on the United We Stand podcast that the club views Hall as a suitable option to provide competition and support for Shaw. Newcastle are expected to demand a fee of £60 million for the 20-year-old Englishman, who joined the Magpies from Chelsea last year.
Alongside the pursuit of Hall, United are also keeping tabs on Tchouameni, although a move for the French midfielder would depend on Real Madrid’s willingness to sell. Mitten revealed that Tchouameni recently signed a contract extension with improved wages, partly in response to speculation linking Real Madrid with a move for Manchester City’s Rodri. However, should Madrid decide to pursue other transfer targets, Tchouameni would be open to joining United.
Tchouameni’s high wages and potential transfer fee represent significant obstacles, but the player himself is reportedly happy at Madrid and would consider a move to Old Trafford if he were deemed surplus to requirements. United are aware of the challenges of adapting to the Premier League and have considered other, less high-profile midfield options currently playing in Spain.
Separately, Cristiano Ronaldo, currently playing for Al-Nassr, is reportedly attempting to bring Bruno Fernandes to Saudi Arabia. According to TEAMtalk, Ronaldo is leading an effort to convince his compatriot to join him, and Al-Nassr have already made contact with Fernandes regarding a potential transfer. However, United are unlikely to sanction Fernandes’s departure, viewing him as a crucial player in their long-term plans and are potentially considering a new contract offer.
