Manchester United are set to save over £9 million in compensation payments following Ruben Amorim’s impending move to AC Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils had previously anticipated a potential €18.4 million (£15.9m) payout after sacking Amorim in January, a figure that included compensation for his entire coaching staff – Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, and Jorge Vital.
Romano reported that Amorim has agreed to a two-year contract with AC Milan, extending to 2028 with an option for a further year until 2029, marking his return to management after his dismissal from Manchester United. The financial saving represents a positive outcome for United following a turbulent managerial situation.
In other transfer news, Arsenal are poised to miss out on Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown, with Bayern Munich closing in on a €55 million (£47.5m) deal for the 22-year-old. Brown recently impressed for Germany, scoring and assisting in a 7-1 victory over Curacao. Bayern are also nearing the acquisition of Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven, potentially spending a combined €110 million on the two players.
Reports linking Darwin Nunez with a return to Liverpool have been dismissed by Romano, who states sources close to the player and the club deny any ongoing negotiations. Nunez currently plays for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, having left Liverpool in 2025, and is expected to remain with the Saudi club despite speculation.
Finally, Josko Gvardiol is set to sign a new contract with Manchester City, extending his stay until 2031. This commitment ends any loose links with Real Madrid, who had reportedly shown interest. Gvardiol’s new deal will include a pay rise, solidifying his position as a key player for City.
