Manchester United’s plans to sign a new left winger this summer are currently on hold, dependent on the future of Marcus Rashford, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The club has registered interest in both Crysencio Summerville of West Ham and Iliman Ndiaye at Everton, but will only actively pursue either player if Rashford departs.
INEOS’s summer overhaul at Old Trafford has prioritized central midfield, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans already secured, and a third midfield addition still anticipated. A backup goalkeeper has also been brought in, with Karl Darlow joining the squad. However, strengthening the wide areas was identified as a secondary objective, contingent on movement involving Rashford.
Barcelona had a €30 million option to buy Rashford which they did not exercise, leaving United in a position where the England international will participate in pre-season training. Despite this, uncertainty remains regarding his long-term future at the club. United are keen not to be left short-handed should Rashford leave, and thus have identified potential replacements.
Currently, Roma are leading the chase for Summerville, having submitted a third bid worth €47 million plus add-ons. Romano reports that United’s interest in the winger is “completely cold” as a result of Roma’s aggressive pursuit and the ongoing situation with Rashford. The club is maintaining its current structure upfront while Rashford remains at the club.
Interest in Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye also remains tentative. Romano notes that several clubs, including Aston Villa, have shown interest in the player, but United are not progressing with a move due to the Rashford situation. Ndiaye is considered a crucial player for Everton and would likely command a significant transfer fee.
Rashford is reportedly looking forward to working with new coach Michael Carrick during pre-season, suggesting a potential willingness to remain at the club. Unless a firm offer arrives for Rashford, or he indicates a desire to leave, United are unlikely to make a significant investment in a new winger this summer.
