Manchester United’s plans to sign a new left winger are currently on hold, dependent on the future of Marcus Rashford, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The club had identified both Crysencio Summerville of West Ham and Iliman Ndiaye at Everton as potential targets, but a move for either player is unlikely unless Rashford departs.
INEOS’s summer priority has been a rebuild in central midfield, with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, and a further addition still anticipated. A backup goalkeeper in Karl Darlow has also been secured, but strengthening the wide areas was contingent on movement with Rashford. Barcelona’s option to buy Rashford was not taken up, and the England international is expected to participate in pre-season training with United despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding his long-term future.
Roma are aggressively pursuing Summerville, having submitted a third bid worth €47m plus add-ons. Romano reports that United’s interest in the Dutchman is currently “completely cold” due to Rashford’s continued presence in the squad. The club intends to maintain its current attacking structure while Rashford remains at Old Trafford.
Regarding Ndiaye, Romano states that United are also not actively progressing a deal, again due to the Rashford situation. Several other clubs, including Aston Villa, have previously expressed interest in the Everton winger, but he is expected to command a significant transfer fee given his importance to his current club. United are keeping their options open regarding Rashford, with the player reportedly looking forward to working with new coach Michael Carrick.
In essence, United will only actively pursue a new winger if Rashford leaves the club. With Roma pushing hard for Summerville and Everton unlikely to easily part with Ndiaye, the situation suggests United may need to reassess their attacking options if Rashford remains at Old Trafford.
