Manchester United have opened talks with the representatives of Atalanta midfielder Ederson over a potential summer transfer, according to reports. The Premier League club is actively pursuing the Brazilian international as part of a planned midfield overhaul ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs stated that Atalanta value the 27-year-old at around €50 million and that United have made contact with the player's camp. The move aligns with the club's intention to sign at least two new central midfielders this summer, with Casemiro expected to depart and fellow midfielder Manuel Ugarte also potentially being sold.
The interest in Ederson is not new for United. According to Fabrizio Romano, the player has been monitored by the Old Trafford club for a long time and was a target a year ago, but Atalanta refused to sell at that time. Romano adds that the Serie A side is now prepared to sell for a fee in the region of €45-50 million this summer, though United have not yet made a final decision to proceed with a formal offer.
Ederson, a full Brazil international, has established himself as a dynamic and combative presence in Atalanta's midfield since joining from Salernitana in 2022. His performances have also attracted attention from other clubs, with Arsenal also reported to be keeping tabs on his situation. For United, the pursuit is part of a broader strategy that is contingent on both securing Champions League football and finalising their managerial plans for the coming campaign.
In other United transfer news, the future of Marcus Rashford at Barcelona remains uncertain. Romano reports that Barcelona have not yet decided whether to trigger the €30 million buy option clause included in his loan deal and are instead eager to renegotiate a lower fee with United. The English forward is said to be very happy at the Catalan club and would like to stay, but United are insisting on the agreed clause being met or they will recall the player to assess other solutions.
Meanwhile, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has expressed a desire to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana on a permanent basis following his loan spell. Dogan told Turkish media that the final decision will rest with the player himself, but the club would like to keep him if the conditions are right. The developments across multiple fronts indicate a busy and pivotal summer window is anticipated for Manchester United as they look to reshape their squad.
