Manchester United planning midfield revolution with six major deals, reports say
Manchester United are planning a significant overhaul of their midfield this summer, with a major overhaul reportedly involving six players, according to a report from Sky Sports. The club is said to be targeting a major revamp of their engine room, with several high-profile arrivals and departures on the agenda.
According to Sky Sports reporter Sacha Tavolieri, the club is preparing for a significant turnover. Midfield anchor Casemiro is set to depart when his contract expires at the end of the season, while the club is also open to offers for Manuel Ugarte, who could return to Serie A with Juventus or a Turkish club like Galatasaray. In contrast, the club is moving to secure the long-term future of Kobbie Mainoo, who is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract, a deal that is seen as a priority for the club's hierarchy.
In terms of incomings, Manchester United's primary target is reportedly Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson. According to the report, Forest are demanding a fee in the region of £100-120 million for the midfielder, with Manchester City also credited with a strong interest. Aston Villa's Amadou Onana is another name high on the club's list of targets, with the Belgian having been a long-term target for the club.
A third, more distant target is West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes, who has been identified as a potential long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes in the number ten role. However, this move is not considered an immediate priority for the upcoming window. The club's reported interest in Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton is also noted, though Anderson remains the top target.
While the club is planning for the future, they are also focused on the present, with interim manager Michael Carrick receiving a strong endorsement from both club legend Nicky Butt and winger Amad Diallo. The report suggests the club is planning a significant financial outlay to restructure the midfield, signaling a clear intent to build a new core for the future, with Mainoo and a major new signing like Anderson or Onana at its heart.
