Manchester United push to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown
Manchester United are actively pursuing a summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown, according to reports in Germany. The 22-year-old German international has emerged as a primary target for United as they seek to reinforce their defensive options, though they face significant competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and a host of European elite clubs.
A report from Bild, cited by Sport Witness, states that United are firmly 'in the mix' for Brown's signature. The defender's valuation is set between €65 million and €70 million (approximately £61 million), a fee Frankfurt are expected to demand for one of their prized assets. While no formal talks have been initiated, a summer transfer is described as increasingly likely for the highly sought-after full-back.
Brown has enjoyed a spectacular breakout season in the Bundesliga, contributing four goals and six assists across all competitions. His rapid development was capped with a senior debut for Germany in a recent 2-1 win over Ghana, where he delivered an impressive performance. Frankfurt's sporting director, Markus Krosche, told BILD that Brown is "already one of the best full‑backs in Europe," a testament to his rising stature.
The interest from Old Trafford aligns with a planned overhaul of the left-back position. United are keen to provide proven competition and cover for the injury-prone Luke Shaw. Tyrell Malacia is out of contract at the end of the season and is not expected to be offered a new deal, creating a clear need for a new addition. The potential arrival of a player of Brown's caliber could also allow current squad member Patrick Dorgu to operate in a more advanced role, where he has previously shown promise.
However, United's path is far from clear. TEAMtalk exclusively revealed that Liverpool have extensively scouted Brown and view him as a potential long-term successor to Andy Robertson. Furthermore, the same Bild report notes that Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester City are also among the player's admirers, setting the stage for a potential bidding war.
The pursuit of Brown represents one of several potential major moves contemplated by United's new INEOS-led football hierarchy. Former United striker Louis Saha has publicly urged the club to make a spectacular move for Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, while the club also holds a reported interest in Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye. Securing a top-tier left-back, however, remains a practical and pressing priority for manager Michael Carrick.
For Frankfurt, the potential sale of another homegrown star for a major fee would continue their model of developing and trading talent. For Brown, a move to a club of United's stature would mark a significant step in his career, though his form this season suggests he is ready for the challenge. The coming months will determine whether United can fend off their rivals to secure one of Europe's most exciting defensive talents.
