Manchester United's pursuit of Eduardo Camavinga hits significant obstacle
Manchester United's hopes of signing Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer have been dealt a significant blow, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stating the player has no desire to leave the Spanish capital. According to Romano, Camavinga is not actively seeking a transfer and wishes to fight for his place at the Bernabéu, despite reported interest from several Premier League clubs.
United, along with Chelsea and Liverpool, have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old French international. TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey reported earlier that intermediaries had begun sounding out top clubs regarding Camavinga's availability, with Manchester United asking to be kept informed on the situation. Recent reports from Spanish media had suggested Real Madrid were seriously considering placing the versatile player, who can also operate at left-back, on the market.
However, Romano's latest update clarifies the current stance from all parties. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said, "My understanding is that Real Madrid are not actively trying to sell Camavinga. His agents are not offering Camavinga to clubs. Camavinga is not showing a desire to leave Real Madrid, according to my information." He added that while the midfielder is not considered "untouchable," the club is not pushing him out, and any deal would require a substantial proposal and the player's willingness to depart.
Camavinga joined Real Madrid from Rennes in 2021 for a total package reported to be around €40 million. While he has been a part of multiple trophy-winning sides, his recent seasons have been hampered by injury, and his performances in the current campaign have been described as underwhelming. This dip in form is believed to have sparked the initial speculation about a potential summer sale.
For Manchester United, a player of Camavinga's profile—a dynamic, technically gifted midfielder with top-level experience—has long been a target as they seek to rebuild their engine room under their new sporting project. The potential pursuit also aligns with a broader strategy of recruiting younger talent with high resale value. Despite the apparent setback, Romano noted that Premier League clubs have already started making calls to understand the situation, indicating that interest remains alive.
The development leaves United's transfer plans in a state of flux, forcing them to either wait for a potential change in circumstances later in the window or pivot to alternative targets. For Real Madrid, the situation underscores a period of evaluation for a talented squad player whose future, while currently in Madrid, is not entirely cemented for the long term.
