Jack Grealish is back in Manchester City’s first-team plans under new manager Enzo Maresca, despite speculation regarding his future this summer, according to sources. The 30-year-old has not joined the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia, but this is due to the final stages of his recovery from foot surgery undergone in February.
City are prioritizing Grealish’s rehabilitation, opting to keep him in Manchester to avoid any setbacks before reintegrating him into full training. TEAMtalk reported earlier in July that Maresca specifically requested to assess Grealish personally before making any decisions about his future.
Maresca, who previously worked with Grealish at the Etihad, informed sporting director Hugo Viana of his desire to retain the winger. He has reportedly been impressed with Grealish’s attitude and commitment, noting the player undertook an extensive individual fitness program throughout the summer to return in optimal condition.
Grealish has also communicated his desire to remain at City and compete for his place, rather than pursue an immediate exit. This determination has further solidified Maresca’s belief in the forward’s potential contribution this season. While interest from other clubs exists, Grealish is currently focused on remaining in the Premier League.
Everton, where Grealish spent last season on loan, are still interested in bringing him back to Goodison Park. However, a financial arrangement would likely require assistance from Manchester City, potentially in the form of another loan or a subsidized permanent transfer to cover part of Grealish’s wages. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer have also made enquiries, but Grealish’s preference remains playing in England.
The situation could change, but for now, Grealish is focused on proving his worth at the highest level under Maresca’s guidance. His ability to regain a prominent role could significantly impact City’s attacking options this season.
