Inter president Beppe Marotta will travel to Madrid in the coming days for talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, according to reports in Italy. Marotta is attending the “Corazón Classic Match” – a legends match between Real Madrid and Inter – at the Santiago Bernabéu tomorrow, providing an opportunity for discussions with Perez, who was recently re-elected as Real Madrid president.
The relationship between Inter and Real Madrid is described as strong, having withstood recent dealings such as the departure of Denzel Dumfries to the Spanish capital. Real Madrid informed Inter they would activate Dumfries’ €20 million release clause, a move that wasn’t unexpected as the player had previously expressed a desire to explore new opportunities and had changed agents in December to Ali Barat.
The Dumfries transfer mirrors a similar deal from 2020 when Inter signed Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid for €40 million plus bonuses, following a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund. That operation was overseen by Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio, who also previously sold Mateo Kovacic to Real Madrid in 2015, and finalized by Marotta with Perez.
Inter, along with the ownership fund Oaktree, are reportedly looking for a high-profile signing as a celebration of their anticipated 21st Serie A title. While Nico Paz was previously identified as a target, it appears the young Argentinian will remain at Como for another season, potentially featuring in the Champions League. However, Real Madrid’s squad is brimming with talent, particularly in attacking midfield, with players like Jude Bellingham, Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler, Mastantuono, Palacios, and the incoming Endrick all vying for positions. José Mourinho has also requested the signing of Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.
With such depth, Real Madrid may be willing to part with some players, and Inter could be interested in acquiring a creative attacking player to bolster their squad for next season. The potential for a move for one of these players will likely be discussed during Marotta’s visit.
