Crystal Palace will not be signing Chrislain Matsima from FC Augsburg, with negotiations between the two clubs breaking down at the final stage, according to Sky Sports.
The transfer collapsed due to disagreements over bonus structures and payment terms, with Palace reportedly unwilling to compromise on their offer. Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg reports that Augsburg ultimately ended discussions, anticipating no further bids from the Premier League side.
Palace’s last offer was believed to be slightly over €30 million including potential bonuses. While a deal appeared likely just days prior, the clubs were unable to bridge the gap in valuation.
Matsima will now join Augsburg’s pre-season training camp, having been informed of the collapsed transfer by the club and his representatives. He had been with the Bavarian club for two seasons, making 48 Bundesliga appearances since arriving from AS Monaco.
The breakdown in negotiations comes as Crystal Palace navigate the departure of Maxence Lacroix, who recently joined Chelsea from Wolfsburg. Palace had identified Matsima as a potential replacement, seeking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The failed transfer leaves Augsburg with a key player still at the club, and Palace continuing their search for defensive reinforcements. This outcome could prompt Palace manager Oliver Glasner to reassess other targets in the transfer market.
