Arsenal could potentially sign Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid if they win the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, according to club legend Emmanuel Petit.
The Gunners face PSG in Budapest on May 30th, seeking their first European Cup title, and Petit believes a victory would significantly elevate Arsenal’s standing in the transfer market. He suggests that winning the Champions League would send a strong message to potential signings, making a move for a player of Mbappe’s calibre more feasible.
Mbappe, currently at Real Madrid, has recently been the subject of scrutiny following a trip to Italy during his injury rehabilitation, with some questioning his discipline. However, Petit believes this would not be a concern for Mikel Arteta, who is reportedly seeking to strengthen his attacking options. He highlighted Mbappe’s suitability for the left wing at Arsenal.
Arsenal are anticipated to offload either Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard this summer as Arteta aims to refine his squad, and Mbappe would undeniably represent a significant upgrade. However, any deal would be complex, and Real Madrid would likely demand a substantial fee for the French forward, whose Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is currently €129 million, placing him among the world’s most valuable players.
Despite the potential, Petit acknowledges that Mbappe is likely to remain at Real Madrid, believing that leaving without winning a trophy would be perceived as a failure for the player. He suggests Mbappe’s ego would drive him to stay and prove his worth at the Bernabeu, unless Florentino Perez, the club president, decides otherwise. Mbappe has primarily featured as a centre-forward for Real Madrid, but a move to Arsenal could see him return to a wider role, potentially on the left wing.
