Scotland international Scott McKenna has stated his intention to remain at Dinamo Zagreb this summer, dismissing speculation linking him with a transfer to Celtic. The news comes after a successful season with the Croatian club, where McKenna played a key role in their league and cup double victory.
McKenna joined Dinamo Zagreb on a free transfer from Las Palmas last July and quickly established himself as a regular in the side, making 42 appearances across all competitions in the 2025-26 season. His consistent performances have also earned him a place in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup tournament. Reports had suggested that Celtic had been closely monitoring McKenna's progress, with scouts dispatched to Croatia on multiple occasions.
However, according to the Glasgow Times, McKenna has now publicly addressed the rumours, stating that he is committed to his four-year contract with Dinamo Zagreb. “I have a four-year contract, so I'm here for a few more years,” he said following Dinamo’s title-winning celebrations. He further emphasized his focus, adding, “I knew I was going to the World Cup, but my focus was completely on Dinamo. Now we've won the double and I can dedicate myself to Scotland and going to the World Cup.”
Dinamo Zagreb reportedly reclaimed the Croatian title after losing it to Rijeka the previous year, with McKenna playing a significant part in their success. A fee in excess of €10 million was previously speculated as potentially required to prise McKenna away from the Croatian champions. With McKenna unavailable, Celtic will now need to turn their attention to alternative centre-back targets, with West Bromwich Albion’s George Campbell reportedly on their list of potential signings. This development leaves Celtic searching for defensive reinforcements as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
