FC Metz have announced the departure of General Manager Hélène Schrub, effective immediately, as the club begins restructuring following the conclusion of their Ligue 1 season. Schrub had held the position since 2016, having joined the club as an intern after completing her studies and progressing through various roles in communication and general secretary positions.
Her departure comes after a challenging season for Metz, culminating in relegation to Ligue 2. Schrub faced criticism from sections of the club’s supporters who voiced concerns over a perceived lack of sporting project under the ownership of Bernard Serin. She was the only woman to hold a general manager role amongst the 18 clubs in the French top flight.
Beyond her role at Metz, Schrub was also a member of the executive committee of the French Football Federation (FFF), focusing primarily on societal issues within French football. The club has not yet announced a successor to Schrub, a task that will be significant given the challenges facing the team as they prepare for life in the second tier.
Schrub’s time at Metz spanned periods in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, and she oversaw significant changes within the club structure during her tenure. While details surrounding the reasons for her departure remain limited, the move signals a clear intention from Metz to initiate a fresh start as they aim to secure promotion back to Ligue 1. The club will now begin the process of identifying a new leader to guide them through this period of transition.
