FC Metz have confirmed the loan signing of Georgian winger Giorgi Abuachvili from Kolkheti 1913 Poti, the club announced on Tuesday. The 23-year-old returns to Metz for a season-long loan, having previously spent the 2025-2026 campaign with the French side. Abuachvili will join a Metz squad preparing for life in Ligue 2 following their relegation from the top flight.
The move sees Abuachvili return to a familiar environment, where he will hope to contribute to Metz’s immediate promotion push. He made 23 appearances for Kolkheti 1913 Poti last season, scoring two goals. The winger expressed his delight at rejoining the club, stating he is “very proud to wear the grenat shirt again this season.”
Abuachvili’s initial loan spell at Metz provided him with valuable experience in French football, despite the club’s subsequent relegation. He has also earned two international caps for Georgia, demonstrating his potential on the international stage. The winger primarily operates as a wide player, capable of providing both goals and assists.
Metz have also appointed Luc Holtz as their new manager, tasked with leading the club back to Ligue 1. Holtz will be hoping Abuachvili can quickly adapt to his system and become a key player in the team’s attacking lineup. The loan deal provides Metz with a relatively low-risk opportunity to strengthen their squad with a player already familiar with the club’s surroundings, while offering Abuachvili a platform to showcase his talents in a competitive league.
The club will be looking for Abuachvili to contribute immediately as they attempt to bounce back to the top tier of French football. His pace and trickery could prove vital in breaking down opposition defenses in Ligue 2.
