Ajax winger Mika Godts has commented on speculation linking him with a summer move to Arsenal. The 20-year-old Belgian forward, who has been named as a potential target for the Gunners, addressed the rumours in an interview with ESPN, where he was recently awarded Talent of the Month for April. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Godts is expected to make a move this summer with several top European clubs on alert, and initial approaches have already taken place.
Arsenal’s interest comes amid a period of scrutiny over their attacking options, particularly on the left side of their forward line. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have been the primary options for Mikel Arteta in that position this season, but the club is understood to be assessing potential reinforcements. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard suggested in a recent analysis for TNT Sports that Arsenal might seek to strengthen that flank during the upcoming transfer window.
Mika Godts has enjoyed a breakout season in the Eredivisie, contributing 16 goals and 11 assists in 29 league appearances for Ajax. His performances have attracted attention from a number of clubs, with Manchester United also mentioned as a potential suitor. A report from HandofArsenal, cited by Now Arsenal, claims the player is "very open" to a move to the Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal’s technical director Andrea Berta said to be tracking his progress.
When asked by ESPN about suggestions he is too good for the Dutch league and the persistent transfer links, Godts offered a measured response. "I’ve heard about it, but fortunately, this is not decided in a TV studio," he said. "The people within the club and at other clubs decide that. So much is involved that I don’t even know. I hope to experience a great World Cup first, and then I’ll just come back here to hit the ground running next season." His comments hint at a possible stay at Ajax, at least for the immediate future, following the upcoming World Cup.
For Arsenal, Godts represents a young, high-potential option who could provide depth and competition in a key area. Any move would likely align with the club’s strategy of investing in promising talent. However, the Gunners are also being linked with other attacking targets, including Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. Romano has reported that Gordon has serious chances of leaving Newcastle, with Bayern Munich and Premier League clubs in contention.
The summer window will reveal whether Arsenal formalise their interest in Godts with a concrete offer. For now, the player remains focused on his international duties with Belgium and his commitments to Ajax, leaving his future subject to further negotiation and club decision-making in the coming months.
