Mikey Moore ends Rangers loan with intention to fight for Tottenham place
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore has confirmed his intention to return to his parent club this summer, ending speculation of a prolonged stay at Rangers. The 18-year-old winger, who has spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Ibrox, stated in a club-produced video that his focus is now on earning a place in the Spurs first team next season. This marks a shift from previous comments where both the player and Rangers manager Danny Rohl had expressed openness to an extended loan.
Moore's decision comes as Tottenham, under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Regardless of the division the club finds itself in next term, Moore is determined to be part of the project. "I just want to go back to Tottenham and hopefully get myself a place in the team," Moore said in the video, which was posted on both clubs' official YouTube channels. He added that he aims to bring "special moments" to the Tottenham supporters, referencing the trophy-winning experience he gained in Scotland.
The England Under-19 international enjoyed a productive spell in Glasgow, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 27 Scottish Premiership appearances. He became a key figure following the appointment of Danny Rohl as Rangers head coach, thriving in an environment he described as perfect for his development. "I want to play under pressure and under expectation," Moore explained. "Winning is just part of the culture... It’s mad to play under that expectation and it’s perfect for a player like me."
For Rangers, Moore's departure is a significant blow. Rohl had publicly stated his desire to retain the talented teenager for another campaign, viewing him as integral to his attacking plans. The club must now identify alternative options to fill the void left on the wing. Moore's comments suggest his time at Ibrox, while highly beneficial, was always viewed as a stepping stone. He called the move "the best I could have possibly had" for his growth as a young professional.
The situation presents a clear opportunity for Moore at Tottenham, where the club's precarious league position could lead to a reshuffled squad in the summer. His directness, goal contributions in a high-pressure environment at Rangers, and familiarity with the club make a compelling case for first-team involvement. However, he will face competition for minutes in a forward line that will likely be reconfigured by De Zerbi.
From a financial perspective, the move involves no transfer fee, as Moore is simply returning from a loan. His contract at Tottenham, believed to be a long-term deal signed before his loan departure, remains in effect. The coming pre-season will be crucial for the youngster to impress his manager and demonstrate that his experiences in Scotland have prepared him for the rigors of regular involvement, whether in the Premier League or the Championship.
