Ruben Amorim’s appointment as the new manager of AC Milan is already shaping the club’s transfer strategy, with Gonçalo Ramos emerging as a key target. The club officially announced Amorim’s arrival on their website yesterday, confirming a three-year contract with an option for a fourth. This move is not expected to result in Rafael Leao remaining at the club, with Leao having previously expressed his desire to leave Milan.
Amorim, formerly with Sporting CP and most recently linked with Manchester United, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating his ambition to manage Milan and acknowledging the club’s history and passionate fanbase. He intends to work closely with the ownership and the club’s leadership on transfer decisions.
According to reports, Amorim is particularly interested in bringing in players he knows well, including Ramos. The 24-year-old forward currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, where he has won domestic titles but has not consistently featured as a starter under Luis Enrique. Ramos’ agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly open to exploring a transfer this summer, despite the player previously indicating contentment with his €5 million net salary. A loan deal with an option or obligation to buy is being considered, with PSG valuing Ramos at €40 million, a figure that may be reduced if the transfer is deferred to 2027.
Other players on Amorim’s radar include Manuel Ugarte of Manchester United, and Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand. In defense, Antonio Silva of Benfica is a target, though Inacio may be too expensive. Francisco Trincao, another former player of Amorim’s at Sporting, is also being considered. To facilitate these signings, Milan will likely need to sell players, with Rafael Leao being a potential departure, though no concrete offers have yet been made. Luka Modric is expected to leave, while the futures of Mike Maignan, Adrien Rabiot, Loftus-Cheek, and Fofana are uncertain. Amorim will also evaluate the existing squad, including Tomori, to determine their roles in his plans. This transfer activity is expected to be crucial as Milan prepares for a season without Champions League football.
