Milan have completed the signing of Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos, the club confirmed on Sunday. The 22-year-old arrives from Benfica as the most expensive signing in the club’s history, though the exact fee was not disclosed in initial reports. Ramos has signed a long-term contract with the Rossoneri, with the club hoping he will reach a century of goals before turning 25.
The move for Ramos represents a significant investment as Milan look to reshape their attack under new manager Paulo Amorim. The club reportedly considered several other forward options last season, including Christian Pulisic, Divock Origi, and Füllkrug, but ultimately settled on Ramos as their primary target. Amorim envisions Ramos as a central focal point, utilizing his aerial ability and finishing prowess to lead the line. The manager believes Ramos’ physical presence will offer something different to the forwards Milan deployed last season.
Amorim also detailed plans for other key players in the squad. Pulisic, who was personally sought by owner Gerry Cardinale and Amorim, is expected to play on the left wing, utilizing his right foot to cut inside. Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, returning from a loan spell at Fulham, will be deployed as a dynamic right-sided midfielder, tasked with providing energy and width. Amorim highlighted Chukwueze’s dribbling ability and stamina as key assets.
In midfield, veteran Luka Modric is set to remain a key figure, both on and off the pitch. While his playing time will be managed, Modric will also mentor young midfielder Ardon Jashari, who the club has resisted offers for. Amorim expressed his enthusiasm for Jashari’s talent and has indicated he will not be sold.
