Milan are monitoring the situation of Nicolo Zaniolo at Udinese, with the player currently in a contract dispute with his club, according to reports from Italy. Zaniolo’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, has held multiple meetings with Milan’s sporting directors, most recently on Tuesday evening, to discuss a potential move.
Udinese exercised their option to permanently sign Zaniolo from Galatasaray on June 15th for a fee of €10 million, but disagreements over his contract terms have stalled progress. Zaniolo was expecting a net salary of €1.8 million with bonuses, while Udinese initially offered €1.3 million plus bonuses, later increasing it to €1.5 million with performance-related incentives. This difference has created a rift, and Zaniolo has not yet joined pre-season training, citing a medical certificate.
Milan manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly seeking to bolster his squad with players who fit his tactical system, a 3-4-2-1 formation. Zaniolo, who was previously of interest to Massimiliano Allegri, is considered a suitable fit, particularly as Milan currently lack a natural left-footed attacking midfielder on the right side of the attack. The club has already secured Gonçalo Ramos and Gila in this transfer window.
While Udinese officially expect Zaniolo to remain with the club following his permanent transfer, a significant offer – around €15-20 million for the club and a salary of €2.5 million for the player – could change their stance. Juventus are also reportedly monitoring the situation, though Bologna's interest appears contingent on the potential departure of Riccardo Orsolini. Vigorelli has also been in discussions with Milan regarding other potential targets, including Bondo, who may be of interest to Watford. Zaniolo’s Italian citizenship could also prove beneficial for Milan’s UEFA squad registration.
