The restructuring timeline at AC Milan, overseen by Gerry Cardinale, has been extended beyond the initially projected 7-10 days, according to reports in Italy. This delay concerns the appointments of new leadership following the departures of Giorgio Furlani, Igli Tare, and Geoffrey Moncada, as well as a new head coach to succeed Massimiliano Allegri. Allegri is expected to be officially announced at Napoli shortly after reaching an agreement on his severance package with Milan, reportedly around €1 million.
The search for suitable candidates is reportedly being handled by two headhunting firms, who will present potential options to Cardinale, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Lorenzo Giorgi. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Giorgi is increasingly likely to become the interim CEO of Milan, assuming operational responsibilities previously held by Furlani, with Paolo Scaroni taking on less urgent tasks. There is a possibility Giorgi could permanently replace Furlani as CEO, potentially shifting away from his initial focus on RedBird’s other European projects.
Oliver Glasner, the former manager of Crystal Palace, has emerged as a strong candidate for the head coach position following a six-hour meeting in Germany. Glasner is reportedly intrigued by the Milan project, and discussions covered playing style, structural changes, squad analysis, and potential transfer targets. His appointment is not contingent on Ralf Rangnick joining the club.
Rangnick has been heavily considered for the role of technical director, but he has reportedly demanded complete control over the sporting area, including the appointment of the sporting director and head coach, as well as oversight of scouting, video analysis, and the youth sector. This would require negotiations with current staff. Rangnick is currently in Santa Barbara, California, preparing for the European Championship with Austria and is seeking assurances that Ibrahimovic and Kirovski will not interfere with his work.
Matthias Jaissle, another manager linked to Rangnick, is also under consideration, but his current contract at Al-Ahli, worth €11 million annually with a €6 million release clause, presents a significant obstacle. Alternatives being considered for the sporting director role include Ramon Planes, while Mauricio Pochettino and Arne Slot have been mentioned as potential coaching options. Pochettino has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement worth €5 million per year, and Slot, recently dismissed by Liverpool, is open to considering the project.
