Milan’s attempt to sign Lazio defender Mario Gila has encountered a setback, with the two clubs yet to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. According to reports from Italy, Milan’s initial offer, presented by the player’s agent Alejandro Camaño in Rome, did not fully satisfy Lazio’s demands. However, the difference in valuation is described as minimal, and both parties remain optimistic about finalizing a deal in the coming days.
Complicating the negotiation is Lazio’s obligation to forward half of any fee received for Gila to Real Madrid, the player’s former club. To bridge the gap, Milan has offered to include young left-back Lorenzo Calvani, a 2008-born talent, in the deal. Calvani is reportedly of interest to Milan, but could serve as a key component in unlocking Gila’s transfer. New Milan manager Ruben Amorim, who arrived in Milan yesterday, is reportedly keen on the move.
Milan are prepared to offer Gila a contract worth €5 million net per season, plus a €5 million commission for his agent, figures that competing clubs Napoli and Atalanta are currently unable to match. Napoli are constrained by the need to sell players before making acquisitions, while Atalanta cannot meet the proposed wage demands. Lazio, however, are currently holding firm on their asking price.
Alongside the pursuit of Gila, Milan are also exploring options to strengthen their attacking midfield. Konstantinos Karetsas, a 2007-born Greek international currently playing for Genk, has emerged as a potential target. Karetsas has already amassed over 100 professional appearances for both club and country. Genk recently extended Karetsas’ contract in December and are seeking a reported €40 million for the player, whom they consider a “golden boy”. Milan are keen to move quickly to avoid competition from other European clubs, but a significant investment in a trequartista may be contingent on the sale of Rafael Leao, who continues to attract interest from the Premier League.
