Ruben Amorim is assessing the current AC Milan squad and has identified a number of players who are available for transfer this summer, according to reports in Italy. The Portuguese manager, recently appointed as Milan’s new head coach, is undertaking a significant rebuild of the team following a disappointing season where they finished fourth in Serie A.
The club is bracing for a lengthy and complex transfer window, with Amorim categorizing players as ‘confirmed’, ‘in limbo’, or ‘to be sold’. Reports indicate that several established members of the squad are now considered surplus to requirements. While no concrete offers have yet materialized, Milan are actively seeking buyers for these players.
Among those reportedly on the list are Ismaël Bennacer, Yacine Adli, Juan Miranda, Fodé Ballo-Touré, Mateo Musacchio, and Rafael Leão. The inclusion of Leão, who has been a key player for Milan in recent seasons, is a notable development. The Portuguese winger has attracted interest from several top European clubs in the past, but Milan had previously resisted offers.
Bennacer joined Milan from Empoli in 2019 and played a crucial role in their Serie A title win in 2022, however, his form dipped last season. Adli arrived from Bordeaux in 2021 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. Miranda, a left-back, joined from Real Betis last summer and has not fully convinced Amorim. Ballo-Touré has also been deemed expendable after limited appearances. Musacchio, a veteran defender, is nearing the end of his contract and is expected to depart.
The reasons for placing these players on the transfer list vary, but generally relate to Amorim’s tactical vision and the need to raise funds for new signings. Milan are reportedly keen to strengthen their midfield and attack, and player sales will be essential to finance these acquisitions. The club is hoping to generate significant revenue from departures to support Amorim’s rebuilding project.
The potential sale of Leão could be particularly impactful, both financially and in terms of squad dynamics. His departure would create a significant void in Milan’s attack, but could also provide the club with the resources to sign a high-profile replacement. This marks a clear signal of intent from the new manager as he seeks to reshape the team in his own image, and potentially challenge for the Serie A title once again.
