AC Milan are prepared to sell forward Christopher Nkunku during the summer transfer window, with the club seeking €40 million for the player according to reports in Italy. Milan officials recently met with agent Pini Zahavi to discuss Nkunku’s future, though initial discussions did not center around a move for Robert Lewandowski, who is also represented by Zahavi.
Milan are undertaking a significant overhaul of their attacking options, potentially aligning with the tactical preferences of incoming manager Massimiliano Allegri, who favors a blend of experienced players and promising young talent. While Lewandowski remains a name of interest, his high wage demands and associated fees have made him a less immediate priority. Instead, the conversation with Zahavi focused on potential departures, with Nkunku identified as a player the club would be willing to part with.
Nkunku arrived at Milan in 2025 for a fee of €37 million plus bonuses from Chelsea, but his performances have not justified the investment. The club hopes to recoup at least €30 million to avoid a loss, but currently values him at €40 million. His adaptation to the team was hindered by a delayed start to the season after being deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, resulting in a slow build-up of match fitness.
The forward’s role within the Milan squad has also been a factor in his limited impact. Initially, there was an attempt to deploy Nkunku as a central striker, despite his strengths lying as a winger or second striker. This tactical experiment proved unsuccessful, leading to the January signing of Füllkrug to address the central striking position. Furthermore, Allegri has favored a partnership between Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic, limiting Nkunku's opportunities to start matches. Milan intend to use the funds generated from a potential Nkunku sale to finance the acquisition of another forward.
