Milan are on the verge of completing a deal to sign defender Mario Gila from Lazio, according to reports in Italy. The Rossoneri have reportedly reached full agreement with the player and his representatives over a five-year contract worth €5 million net per season.
The move comes as Milan continue to bolster their squad under new manager Ruben Amorim, having recently secured the signing of forward Goncalo Ramos. Gila, a Spanish centre-back born in 2000, has emerged as a key target for Milan as they seek to strengthen their defensive options. The club is now focused on reaching an agreement with Lazio to finalize the transfer.
Negotiations with Lazio are expected to continue at the start of next week, with the aim of concluding the deal between Monday and Tuesday. Lazio are currently holding out for a total package of €30 million, comprised of a €25 million fixed fee plus €5 million in potential bonuses. Milan are working to bridge the gap in valuation.
The Milanese club successfully fended off competition from Napoli to secure Gila’s signature. Napoli had presented a slightly lower economic proposal to the player, and their progress was hampered by a lack of agreement with Lazio regarding the transfer fee, as they awaited player sales to free up funds. Milan capitalized on this situation, launching a decisive push to secure the central defender. Napoli have recently appointed former Milan manager Allegri as their new head coach.
Gila has been a consistent performer for Lazio since joining the club, establishing himself as a reliable option in Serie A. This transfer represents a significant investment for Milan as they look to challenge for Serie A honors and compete in European competitions. The addition of Gila will provide manager Amorim with increased depth and quality in the heart of the defence.
