AC Milan are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as they await a final decision from Ralf Rangnick regarding the role of technical director. According to reports in Italy, Milan are growing concerned by the delay, entering their second week of discussions with potential candidates following the recent overhaul of the club’s technical and managerial structure.
Pochettino is viewed as a viable alternative should Rangnick not accept the proposal put forward by Gerry Cardinale, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Massimo Calvelli. It is claimed that Pochettino has already agreed to preliminary economic terms, but his current commitment to the United States national team, and the ongoing Copa America tournament, could delay any potential move. Milan are anxious to avoid a repeat of the situation four years ago when contract renewal issues with Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara hampered their transfer activity.
The club’s ownership is also exploring other options, including Arne Slot, currently managing Feyenoord, with Ramon Planes identified as a potential sporting director to work alongside him. This represents a different approach to the complete restructuring envisioned by Rangnick, who reportedly intends to overhaul the youth sector from the Under-10 level downwards. Oliver Glasner, who held talks with Ibrahimovic and Cardinale, remains a candidate, though a final agreement has not yet been reached.
Separately, former Milan sporting director Igli Tare is under investigation in Albania on suspicion of money laundering and corruption. The investigation, conducted by the Special Prosecution Office against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK), is linked to an inquiry involving former Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. Tare was questioned for over six hours and has not made any public statements regarding the allegations. He was recently dismissed from his role at Milan alongside several other figures following a restructuring of the club’s leadership.
