AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is planning a significant restructuring of the club’s management following the conclusion of the current Serie A season, according to reports in Italy. The focus within the club is currently on securing Champions League qualification, but a comprehensive review of the season and the roles of key personnel will take place once the campaign is over.
Following a meeting in London between Cardinale, CEO Giorgio Furlani, board member Calvelli, advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and chief brand officer Montini, the immediate priority is maintaining focus on the team’s performance. Cardinale reportedly expressed his disappointment with a season that initially promised a Scudetto challenge but has devolved into a fight for a top-four finish. The outcome of this fight will heavily influence the scope of the changes.
The future of sporting director Ricky Tare is reportedly uncertain, despite having a contract that runs until 2028. Should Tare depart, the club will need to identify a replacement to lead the sporting area. There is also speculation surrounding the position of CEO Giorgio Furlani, who has faced criticism from supporters and may choose to step down at the end of the season.
Massimo Calvelli, a member of the RedBird board, has been identified as a potential candidate to take on a more prominent role within the club’s leadership, but he is currently content with his position as an advisor and head of RedBird’s sports investments. Cardinale will ultimately make the final decision on any new appointments, potentially considering both Italian and international candidates. Ibrahimovic’s role will remain as an advisor, offering suggestions but not taking on increased decision-making responsibility, even if Allegri remains as head coach. Securing Champions League football is estimated to be worth around 100 million euros to the club’s transfer budget, adding further pressure to the remaining matches.
