AC Milan are considering a move for Manchester City’s Phil Foden, but a deal is contingent on the potential sale of Rafael Leão, according to reports in Italy. The Rossoneri are aiming to bolster their attacking options under new manager Ruben Amorim, who is currently assessing the squad at Milanello.
Milan have already invested heavily this transfer window, spending over €100 million on Gonçalo Ramos and Gila. Amorim has reportedly requested a left-footed attacking midfielder to play on the right side of his 3-4-2-1 formation, a position currently occupied by Samuel Chukwueze, who is also being trialled at right wing-back. Foden, 26, is not a guaranteed starter under new City boss Enzo Maresca and could be available for a fee between €50-60 million – a figure Milan hope to match with funds from a potential Leão sale.
Foden currently earns €7.5 million net per year at Manchester City, and Milan are prepared to offer a similar salary of €7 million, aligning with the wages of Leão and Ramos. The clubs have a pre-existing positive relationship, having completed the transfer of Tijani Reijnders last year. No formal negotiations are currently underway, but the possibility remains open.
Nicolò Zaniolo has offered his services to Milan through his agent, but the club does not currently view him as a priority target. Zaniolo is currently in a dispute with Udinese, after refusing to accept their contract offer following a €10 million permanent transfer from Galatasaray. He is currently absent from training, citing medical reasons, and the Pozzo family, owners of Udinese, are reportedly considering placing him outside the squad. Milan may revisit a move for Zaniolo if the situation at Udinese escalates, but are presently focused on pursuing Foden, with Rafaela Pimenta, the agent of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, involved in discussions.
