Milan are considering a move for Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumi, according to reports in Italy. The 28-year-old Colombian international has emerged as a potential reinforcement for Milan’s defence, with the club continuing to seek additions even after the arrival of Matteo Gila.
Milan’s pursuit of Lucumi is currently contingent on a potential departure, with Fikayo Tomori linked with a return to England. Manager Paulo Amorim is reportedly seeking central defenders capable of both defensive solidity and intelligent distribution from the back, fitting criteria Lucumi appears to meet. Other defensive targets for Milan include Antonio Silva and Gonçalo Inácio.
Lucumi joined Bologna in 2022 and has established himself as a key player for the club, primarily featuring in a four-man defence but also capable of playing as a left-sided centre-back in a three-man system. His current contract with Bologna is set to expire in 2027, but the club are open to selling this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer. A previous release clause of €28 million has recently expired, and Bologna are now seeking a fee of around €25 million.
Juventus have also expressed strong interest in Lucumi, and some reports suggest Milan’s interest could be a tactic to encourage Juventus to accelerate their bid. However, Amorim’s clear requirements for a ball-playing defender align well with Lucumi’s profile. The player is known for his accurate passing and ability to build play from the back, making him a potentially valuable addition to Milan’s squad. The situation remains fluid, but Lucumi’s availability and skillset make him an attractive option for both Milan and Juventus.
