Milan sporting director Igli Tare is facing an uncertain future at the club despite recent successes of players he recruited, according to a report from Genoa on Sunday. Tare has spent the week hearing rumors of significant changes within the club, including the potential arrival of Tony D’Amico and the departure of both Tare himself and manager Stefano Pioli.
Despite these reports, Milan’s recent victories have featured key contributions from players signed under Tare’s leadership. Christopher Nkunku, acquired at the end of August, has been instrumental in Milan’s push for Champions League qualification and was considered a questionable signing upon arrival. Athekame, another Tare signing from Young Boys, also scored in a recent match, further highlighting the director’s impact. Even Ardon Jashari, a recent acquisition, had a positive performance, despite a costly error.
Nkunku’s recent form has demonstrated a correlation between his playing time and his performance, thriving when given consistent opportunities. He has been a bright spot in a struggling Milan attack, with Luka Jovic still failing to meet expectations. Nkunku is now considered the most reliable option in attack for the upcoming match against Cagliari.
Tare has not received any official communication from the club regarding his future and is currently in a waiting period. Gerry Cardinale, Milan’s owner, recently stated that the club has spent more than any other Serie A team in the last three seasons, but questioned whether those funds were allocated effectively. Tare was responsible for one of those transfer windows, and the significant investments in players like Luka Modric, Athekame, Nkunku, and Jashari are under scrutiny. Tare was seen alongside Cardinale and Massimo Calvelli at a recent match, suggesting future discussions are planned.
