Milan have officially announced the signing of forward Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent deal. The club confirmed the Portuguese international has signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2031.
The move for Ramos came about after owner Gerry Cardinale took direct control of transfer business following the dismissal of several club officials, including former sporting director Frederic Massara. Cardinale prioritized signing a new number nine, and Ramos quickly emerged as the preferred target for new head coach Paulo Fonseca, despite consideration of other options such as Nicolas Jackson. Ramos himself cited advice from former Benfica president Rui Costa as influencing his decision, emphasizing the importance of playing with freedom.
Ramos joined PSG last summer from Benfica, but struggled to consistently hold down a starting position during his single season in France. He contributed a respectable goal tally, but often found himself rotated within the star-studded PSG attack. The transfer fee is reported to be around €70 million.
With the arrival of Ramos, Milan are also considering strengthening their defense. Club legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly suggested pursuing Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool, though this is considered a difficult proposition given Van Dijk’s current contract situation and importance to Liverpool. A more realistic target appears to be Gonçalo Inácio, a 25-year-old defender who previously played under Fonseca at Sporting CP. Inácio is valued between €30-40 million. The club is prepared to continue investing in the squad following the significant outlay for Ramos, aiming to build a competitive team for the upcoming Serie A season. Ramos will likely join the squad in late July or August, depending on Portugal’s progress in the European Championship.
