Henrikh Mkhitaryan has signed a one-year contract extension with Inter Milan, the club confirmed through comments made by the player at the team’s training camp in Donaueschingen.
The 37-year-old Armenian midfielder will continue with the Nerazzurri, becoming the only member of Inter’s established core to renew their deal for the upcoming season, with Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Matteo Darmian all having separate contract situations.
Mkhitaryan indicated the decision came after discussions with the club following the match against Bologna, where he assessed his ability to contribute for another year. He clarified that this renewal does not necessarily signal his intention to retire at the end of the next campaign, stating the focus remains on the immediate season before considering long-term plans.
Having joined Inter in 2022 on a free transfer after his contract with Roma expired, Mkhitaryan has become a valuable squad player, contributing both creatively and with his experience. He made 37 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists, playing a role in Inter’s Coppa Italia triumph.
Mkhitaryan also expressed his continued faith in Inter assistant coach Cristian Chivu, highlighting his ability to motivate the team and maintain a winning mentality after their successes last season. He believes Chivu will be crucial in ensuring the players remain focused and driven.
The midfielder stated his personal ambition is to improve upon his performances from the previous season and provide support to his teammates in achieving the club’s objectives. Inter are aiming to reclaim the Serie A title, defend their Coppa Italia crown, win the Supercoppa Italiana, and progress further in the Champions League.
