Luka Modric’s future remains undecided as his contract with Milan is set to expire on June 30th, according to reports in Italy. While Milan hold an option to extend the deal for another season, the club have not yet exercised it. The 39-year-old midfielder is currently fully focused on representing Croatia at the ongoing World Cup in the United States.
Modric’s representatives have also indicated a preference for delaying any discussions regarding his future until after the conclusion of the international tournament, prioritizing his performance on the pitch. Croatia’s opening match against England is the immediate focus. Any concrete developments regarding his club future are therefore not expected until after the World Cup concludes. Recent speculation has linked Modric with a potential return to former club Real Madrid.
Davor Suker, a former Croatia international and Real Madrid player, has fueled these rumours, stating on the “La Tribu” program on Radio Marca that “something will definitely happen with Real Madrid” regarding Modric’s future. Suker added that Modric “will definitely return to Madrid, but I don’t know how,” suggesting a deal is likely but details remain unclear. He refrained from elaborating further, indicating that more information will emerge after the World Cup.
The possibility of Modric returning to the Spanish capital is not necessarily as a player. Recent reports suggest Real Madrid could offer the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner a role within the club’s management structure. While this remains unconfirmed, it highlights the strong relationship between Modric and the club where he spent nine highly successful seasons. For now, Modric remains committed to Croatia’s World Cup campaign and achieving success with his national team.
