Luka Modric has signed a contract extension with AC Milan, the club announced on Tuesday. The new deal will keep the Croatian midfielder at the San Siro until June 30, 2027. Modric will continue to earn a net salary of €3.5 million per season, consistent with his previous contract.
The extension is considered a significant boost for manager Paulo Amorim’s plans to build a competitive squad. Modric, a former Ballon d'Or winner with six Champions League titles from his time at Real Madrid, will join his teammates on their tour of Australia, beginning in Perth in early August. Despite approaching his 41st birthday on September 9, the club views his experience and leadership as invaluable.
According to the club’s official statement, Modric has been a key figure in midfield since his arrival and has consistently demonstrated his quality both on and off the pitch. Last season, he made 37 appearances and scored two goals for Milan. The player himself expressed his happiness at remaining with the club, stating he felt welcomed and loved since his arrival.
Modric acknowledged the team’s disappointing fifth-place finish in the 2025-26 season and their subsequent failure to qualify for the Champions League, but emphasized a strong desire for redemption. He believes in the project underway at Milan, highlighting the emerging partnership with players like Jil Diaz and Gonçalo Ramos as evidence of a promising future. He stated he is “ready to give everything” for the club and is proud to continue wearing the Rossoneri colors. This commitment suggests Modric was convinced by the club's vision, despite Milan not representing his long-term footballing home of Madrid.
