Luka Modric has committed to another season with AC Milan, exercising his contract option for an extension through 2027, according to reports in Italy. The Croatian midfielder will forgo a return to Milan immediately, instead joining his teammates on their pre-season tour in Australia. The agreement, reached between Modric and the club, involves a salary of €3.5 million.
While official announcements are expected within 48 hours, the deal is reportedly finalized, with documentation and social media posts prepared. Modric is currently on holiday and will travel directly to Australia to link up with the squad on Sunday. His integration back into the team will be managed by new head coach Paulo Fonseca and his staff, who will assess his fitness following his recent international duty with Croatia, where he earned his 202nd cap against Portugal on July 3rd.
Despite turning 41 in September, Modric demonstrated his continued ability last season, playing 2,816 minutes for Milan. This was his first season in Italian football, and while he didn’t quite reach the 3,000-minute mark due to a cheekbone fracture, it was still a significant contribution. The club anticipates a slightly different role for him this season, emphasizing his leadership qualities alongside his on-field contributions.
Modric reportedly turned down other offers, including a potential return to Dinamo Zagreb, to remain with Milan.
