AS Monaco have announced that Wout Faes and Simon Adingra will not be retained for the 2026-2027 season, the club confirmed on Monday evening. Both players were on loan at the principality club, with options to buy that have now lapsed.
Faes joined Monaco on loan from Leicester City, while Adingra arrived from Sunderland. According to reports, the options to make those moves permanent were set at €7.5 million for Faes and €17 million for Adingra. Despite featuring regularly in the second half of the season under then-manager Sébastien Pocognoli, the incoming head coach Filipe Luís has decided against activating either option.
Luís has not yet been officially appointed, but is already making decisions regarding the squad ahead of the new campaign. The decision not to pursue permanent deals for Faes and Adingra suggests Luís has a clear vision for the team’s composition and is prioritizing different targets.
Faes, a centre-back, made 26 appearances for Monaco across all competitions last season, becoming a key figure in the team’s defense. The Belgian international previously established himself in the Premier League with Leicester, playing a vital role in their FA Cup triumph in 2021. Adingra, an Ivorian winger, also featured prominently, making 24 appearances and contributing with several assists.
The departures of Faes and Adingra create space in Monaco’s squad and allow the club to reinvest funds in other areas. Monaco will likely seek replacements in both the centre-back and winger positions before the start of the season. This signals a potential reshaping of the team under Luís, as Monaco aims to improve on their previous league performance.
